About Formaly

Formaly is a conversational form and survey platform. Instead of dragging fields onto a canvas, you write a sentence describing what you want to learn - "find out why trial users don't convert" - and Formaly generates a complete structured form: the questions, the answer types, the follow-up logic, and the closing message.

Respondents can answer that form in one of two modes. In chat mode they hold a short conversation with an AI interviewer that asks the questions in order, understands free-text answers, and asks a follow-up when an answer is thin. In form mode they see a conventional single-page form. The same form definition powers both, so you never rebuild anything to switch.

Once responses arrive, Formaly reads them for you. It extracts recurring themes, scores sentiment, pulls representative quotes, flags low-quality submissions, and builds cross-tabs and charts. The point is to shorten the distance between asking a question and knowing the answer.

Formaly is built for the people who have to ask a lot of questions and then make sense of the answers.

Traditional forms optimize for the person reading the results, not the person filling them in. Long static questionnaires get abandoned, and the free-text box - the one field that would have told you something you did not already know - gets left blank or filled with a single word.

A conversation changes the incentives. Questions arrive one at a time, the interviewer reacts to what was said, and a vague answer gets one gentle follow-up. Respondents finish more often and say more when they do, which is what makes the analysis worth running at all.

Formaly runs on Next.js with a PostgreSQL database, and uses open-weight large language models served through Nebius Token Factory for generation, conversation, and analysis. Forms are stored as structured JSON documents rather than opaque page layouts, which is what makes the same form renderable as chat, as a classic form, inside an iframe embed, through the JavaScript SDK, or inside a Slack modal.

That structured-first design is also why Formaly is usable by software as well as by people. Every form is readable and writable through a public REST API and a Model Context Protocol server, so an AI agent can create a form, publish it, and read the analytics without a browser.

Formaly is designed, built, and wholly owned by Arindam Majumder, an independent software developer and developer advocate. There is no committee between a bug report and a fix - feedback about Formaly reaches the person who writes the code.
